Employer benefits: Progyny, Carrot, Maven

What they cover, how they differ, and how to use them well.

Progyny

Largest fertility benefits manager. Uses a 'Smart Cycle' model — your benefit is denominated in 'cycles' rather than dollars (typically 1–4 Smart Cycles). One Smart Cycle covers a complete IVF treatment plan including monitoring, retrieval, fertilization, freezing, and transfer. Network of credentialed clinics; medications are administered through their preferred specialty pharmacies.

Carrot Fertility

Lifetime dollar benefit (often $10,000–$50,000) you can spend across IVF, IUI, egg freezing, donor services, surrogacy, and adoption — much more flexible than Progyny on what you can use the money for. You typically have more freedom to choose any clinic.

Maven

Maven combines fertility benefits with broader women's health, maternity, and parental support. The fertility benefit is usually a dollar amount similar to Carrot, plus 24/7 access to specialists via the Maven app.

Kindbody

Combines a benefits-management layer with their own clinic network. Common at companies that want to direct employees toward Kindbody clinics for cost predictability.

How to find out what you have
